Beginning in 1986, St. Paul's has been a "sister parish" to Nuestra Senora de la Luz (Our Lady of the Light) Parish in Peru. Our Lady of the Light is located in the Comas region of Lima, Peru in an area called Santa Luzmila. This is a very poor area of Lima, with vastly overcrowded conditions. It is unknown exactly how many people there are in Our Lady of the Light Parish, but some estimates say 50,000 or more people reside within the parish.
Much like St. Paul's, Our Lady of the Light is a young parish and has had only three pastors in its history. All three of these pastors have visited St. Paul's over the years. The current pastor of Our Lady of the Light , Rev. Joe Deardorff, CPPS, is a native of Dayton, Ohio, and last visited St. Paul's in January of 1996.
As part of our monthly tithe to social justice concerns, St. Paul Parish financially supports the religious education endeavors of Our Lady of the Light Parish for over 5,000 children. Special collections throughout the year, as well as proceeds from various fund-raisers and donations from individual parishioners, also help support various ministerial endeavors of our sister parish.
But most of all, St. Paul's Parish supports Our Lady of the Light through prayer, and the parishioners of Our Lady of the Light support St. Paul's through their prayers as well.
